I paid a visit to both A.D. Barnes and Dante Fascell Park over the holiday weekend to check for overwintering warblers, vireos, flycatchers, and the like. Between the two parks, I ended up with 15 warbler species.
A.D. Barnes Park: 14 warbler species, including Palm, Pine, Prairie, Orange-crowned, Black-throated Blue, Worm-eating, Yellow-rumped, Black-and-white, Magnolia, and NASHVILLE Warblers plus Ovenbird, American Redstart, Common Yellowthroat, and Northern Parula. Other birds included Gray Catbird, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, White-eyed and Blue-headed Vireos, and Summer Tanager.
Dante Fascell Park: 7 warbler species, including Yellow-throated, Black-and-white, Pine, Palm, Prairie, and Magnolia Warbler plus Northern Parula. Other species included Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, and Blue-headed Vireo. A couple kettles with a total of approximately 20 Broad-winged Hawks were cruising lazily overhead -- birds still on the move.
