We spent the day at ENP hoping for some ducks. We were rewarded at West Lake with a canvasback, American wigeons, and 15 ruddy ducks. The best scene of the day was the thousands of coots reacting to an oncoming bald eagle. As it came into sight, coots scrambled out of the trees and lake edge creating wakes as they fled to relative safety with the other coots in the center. The closer the eagle got, the tighter the coot mass became. Fortunately for us, we did not have to witness a coot slaughter as the eagle made one pass and then headed off for easier prey.

Green-winged teals and blue-winged teals were at Mrazek and a lone red-breasted merganser was in the marina at Flamingo. An injured, but yet healthy looking, marbled godwit was on the shoreline of Florida Bay.

There was a fresh dead eastern diamondback rattlesnake on the road along the pinelands. We wished it would have been a python.
