Thanks! Yeah, that photo sure does resemble it. The juve starling in my 35 yr old field guide, not at all.
My bird behaved like a juve something but had unstarling adult posture and unstarling jiz. Admittedly, I haven't seen one in a while. I never see starlings around here and wouldn't expect to see a juvenile anything this time of year, but when you rule out the impossible, the improbable is the answer.
Unless anyone has another suggestion, I'm going with juvenile starling. Thanks again!
