Your assessment could very well be true! That was my initial thought too! However in this photo I don't see the yellow on the legs (rather feet since the legs are tucked in). It is possible that my prescriptions are overdue. I did look at Stokes bird book and they had a Herring at that stage looking so much like this photo and I began to vacillate between the two species. Anyhow, in order to keep my head intact I re-labeled it as: Herring or Lesser Black-backed Gull. This way I am comfortably "sitting on the fence" knowing I am 100% correct:) in the meantime.
To readers in general: I wanted to add 2 items to this issue
1) read the last comment under the photo by Palmchat.
2) Look at another recently shot I posted this week of an unmistakable adult Lesser Black-bellied I took last late December right around the same area.
