Gannets in Migration

Scanning the Atlantic from Jensen Beach (Hutchinson Island) last weekend produced hundreds of Northern Gannets, all headed south. My estimate of numbers is about 700 per hour in groups containing both adults (40%) and immatures (60%). Some groups numbered up to 100 birds, though most were 10 or 15.

Also saw a Greater Black-Backed Gull cruising the beach.

Bottlenose Dolphins about a half mile offshore seemed completely unconcerned as they fed directly under a large waterspout that came just short of touching down.
