This morning at 6:50, while on the way to Crandon Marina for a day of boating/fishing with my daughter, my brother and nieces, I found a female BLACK SCOTER about 100 feet off Hobie Beach on the south side of Rickenbacker Causeway. It was sitting on he water just before reaching Miami Seaguarium. Later in the day, I had a flying COMMON LOON in 127 feet of water off Key Biscayne. But, the best bird of all was a MANX SHEARWATER in 1,100 feet of water about 8-10 miles offshore. This one came across the bow just 15 feet away from the boat. I had planned a pelagic birding trip for today, but cancelled in order to take the girls out fishing instead. I guess no one told the birds that. Like I said before, time to look out on the water, especially when it's calm like this morning. Cheers, libations are definitely in order!
