John Abbott and I went out to the Lauderdale-by-the-Sea pier late Tuesday afternoon from 430 to 530pm. Saw flock of 4-6 Black-capped Petrels skimming buoyantly low to waves at edge of the outer reef, which is very close to shore at that point. Big white rump, black top wings and back and tail tip. White undersides, underside of wings broad black edges around lighter grey, not shearwater, not gull or jaeger. No pictures to prove it but we both got good views. Also saw 1 small flock of gannets, a few laughing and ring-billed gulls, Royal Tern, Brown Pelican, Ruddy Turnstones on pier.
