You must have logged onto eBird at the precise moment a particular transition took place. "Rock Pigeon Operation" was implemented today after a couple of months preparation by the Cornell eBird project managers. This is a big change and involves changing filters, then changing actual records that number over one million. This is especially hard since it involves such a widespread bird.

Currently, all filters have automatically added Rock Pigeon (Feral Pigeon) to them and eBird folks want most people to use these (all people in the Americas) in all cases. Once all updates are complete, another transition will take place where ONLY "Rock Pigeon (Feral Pigeon)" will be an option in areas where only that form occurs. (EX: the Americas)

This update will allow eBird to better track Rock Pigeons (wild type) in Europe and Asia.
