Four birders joined me for the TAS Beginning Birders' Walk in Everglades National Park last Saturday. We started by heading out to Lucky Hammock and the Annex, where we found several local birders already checking out things. Just past the hammock, we found Blue Grosbeak and Northern Harrier, and at the Annex we were treated to Golden-winged and Blue-winged warblers (in the same tree!), Brown Thrasher and Least Flycatcher. As we left the area to head into the park, we saw a noisy flock of seven Sandhill Cranes headed north on the other side of 9336. In the park, itself, we found most of the expected species, though we dipped on Brown-headed Nuthatch. Flamingo was lightly visited by both humans and other critters, probably due to the hordes of mosquitos, but we did pick up a mile-high flock of White Pelicans before leaving there. To our disappointment, no Crocodiles were to be found, even in the usual spots. On the way home, just outside the park, I picked up a dark-morph Short-tailed Hawk.
