This morning around 9:30am two thrushes hung around our backyard, which is mostly native trees and shrubs. They were quiet and didn't move much, no songs or calls for about 20 minutes (but they were surrounded by active catbirds, black throated blue warblers, mockingbirds, cardinals, bluejays and several other warblers that I couldn't ID). They were reddish brown above, white eye rings, faces not streaked. Large dark spots on throat, breast and sides - the spots appeared to be in rows. No flicking of wings or raising of tails seen. Smaller than mockingbirds, larger than catbirds.

Any suggestions? I loaned my favorite bird guide to a friend.
