I had arranged to meet up with Laura George this morning to get her on the Indigo Buntings and were joined in short order by Joel and Sandy Wilcox, Nancy, John Hutchinson and Russ Titus.
Really good numbers - here's a quick list of the highlights:
8 Indigo Buntings (another 4-5 out back) with about the same number of Painted Bunting; 2 Rose-Breasted Grosbeak; 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo, 18-20 Pine Warblers, 2 Tennessee Warblers, Summer Tanager, Baltimore Oriole, Nthn Waterthrush, Swainson's Thrush and Black-throated Blue Warblers, scads of Palms.
Afterwards, I went north to the ponds and out along the perimeter (where my only entourage was 8 palm warblers staying 10 ft in fron of me as I walked along) to relocate the Bell's Vireo (more on that in a moment). There were 5 Limpkin along the shore of the pond on the east side, along with a number of other waders; 4 Belted Kingfishers (flying in a group) as well as a Gray Kingbird on the power lines (also a pair of tyrant flycatchers in a tree along the pond, but out of range for ID - probably GC).
The Bell's Vireo was heard in the understory along the fire break - a distinct song this time. Seen in the same area was a Hermit Thrush - browner than the Swainson's with a distinct reddish tail. Lots more buntings and warblers out there as well.
