Early Saturday morning, Lucky Hammock was quiet except for Common Yellowthroats, Gray Catbirds and Northern Cardinals. Although the yellow gate leading to The Annex is now closed, you can still walk in the area. Just beyond the gate, there is a path on the right. I walked straight on this path (instead of veering left) and managed to flush an American Bittern. The Bittern flew a good distance before landing somewhere near the bee hive boxes.

Highlights from The Annex were Blackpoll, Black-and-White, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Ovenbird, Northern Parula, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Northern Waterthrush (heard), Palm Warbler, Eastern Kingbird, Belted Kingfisher, Northern Harrier, American Kestrel, Monk Parakeet (20+).
