Today I crossed the border. Not illegally of course. I crossed the border into Broward county and checked out Tall Cypress area. A lovely spot with very good potential to many birds. I had a chance to meet Gary E - A really nice guy who knows birds real well. We had a very nice chatting and looking at some birds. I was there from 8-11. Had 8 species of warblers.
We saw:
Lots of Catbirds
American Kestrel in flight
B&W Warbler
Ovenbird - entrance area
Prairie Warbler
Palm Warbler
American Redstart (female)
Common Yellowthroat
Black-throated Blue Warbler
Worm-eating Warbler
Gnatcatchers (too many)
Pileated Woodpeckers
Red-bellied Woodpeckers
Carolina Wren
Blue Jays
I dipped on the more exciting side of bird migration but meeting a real nice birder like Gary E. made up for the lack of bird activity.
The other good news as some of you have already reported...Painted Buntings are back - not in full force as far as I have seen around. Have seen 3 females and 1 gorgeous male at Pondhawk Natural area in Boca.
Until next time,
Marcello
