I have not seen a lot of Backburnians, and had never seen one before with very vivid yellow, and so much of it, underneath, in addition to solid, very bold black stripes. Also, I'm (evidently) still at the stage of taking field guide images as exhaustive of what is possible for variation.

Looking at the picture of a 1st fall male in the big Stokes guide (p. 615), the bird I saw was a deeper yellow below, with black, solid stripes extending further down the sides. However, the example in Stokes is in the ballpark for what I saw, so I'm going to consider it a form of 1st fall male.
