Certain areas of Bill Baggs Cape Florida SP are now open to the public. Area A remains closed indefinitely and downed trees in many places block the trails. The park is closed Saturday morning (11/12/05) for the Lighthouse Run.
Yesterday I accumulated 9 warbler species, including male Wilson's and 300+ Myrtles in a large loose flock. Other birds of interest: Cooper's, Sharp-shinned and Broad-winged Hawks (4), Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, White-throated and Savannah Sparrows. You know it's a good sparrow year when Cape Florida has 6 species by November 11th! The Savannah Sparrow was very interesting: very pale overall, more gray than brown; narrow well-defined streaks on breast with few on flanks; no yellow in lores and no discernible white braces on the mantle.
