Hitch is a cattle egret who has been spending the fall/winter/springs at Fairchild. He likes to hitch a ride on the tram, standing on top of it as the tram moves around the garden. When he sees a lizard on the ground, he jumps down, eats it and hops back on the tram. He also accompanies visitors who are walking around the garden, catching anoles as they stroll the garden together. One day at lunch, he was at the café, while 'his visitors' stopped for lunch. As soon as the visitors he was following got up out of their chairs, he continued following them. He seems to be attracted to people wearing blue clothing. We saw him this past Monday, but I haven't seen him since. He might be out sightseeing. The FTBG hort and education staff have named him Hitch. This is the fourth year he has appeared at Fairchild.
