I just got back from Chekika ENP. The main sign that was posted on Chrome Ave. is gone and at the gate to the chekika area there is an additional sign : Government Property No Trespassing. No open season months are posted. The wooden sign denoting Chekika Enp with the etched Great Blue Heron is still there. The entry road, SW 168th Street has a great deal of increase in vegetation/small trees and shrubs since I was last there. A few Common Yellowthroats, a couple of BG Gnatcatchers and a Prairie were seen along this road. About 12 Meadow Larks, A couple of Red-shouldered Hawks and an Osprey with a fish were seen. Others seen were Green Heron, Loggerhead Shrikes, Great Blue Herons, Great Egret, Crows,Belted Kingfisher and many N. Mockingbirds. Both Black and Turkey Vultures were there. I only traveled a small distance on SW 237 Ave.. The wild flowers were beautiful with various sorts in lavenders, purples, pinks and yellow.
