A terrific group of birders turned out this morning for the TAS walk in Bill Baggs Cape Florida SP. Birds seemed to be coming into the park and we could ID some warblers in flight but others dived into the buttonwoods, never to be found. The Bobolink flight ended about 9 AM and never picked up again. Right away we had our best birds of the day, a female-type Baltimore Oriole and a first winter Blue Grosbeak. Both were near the "mound" area at the north end of the dirt Nature Trail. Up-close-and-personal birds provided by CFBS were enjoyed by all. Farther along the Nature Trail, we picked up an Eastern Wood-Pewee and a Merlin.
We got wet from a shower at 10 AM but we dried out and covered the paved bike path. As we returned to our cars, Mark Lopez alerted us to a severe thunderstorm warning on Key Biscayne. As the words were in a bubble over his head, a very close lightening strike sent us scurrying to our cars.
Thanks, everyone!
