It being day seven (and counting)of my Wilma-induced "vacation", I decided to venture out this morning in search of late migrants and wintering species. Here's what I saw at Kendall Indian Hammocks Park:

Great Egret (overhead)
Turkey Vulture
Sharp-shinned Hawk
Red-shouldered Hawk
Rock Pigeon
White-crowned Pigeon
Mourning Dove
Monk Parakeet
Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Eastern Wood-Pewee
Eastern Phoebe
Great Crested Flycatcher
Loggerhead Shrike
White-eyed Vireo
Blue-headed Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo
Blue Jay
House Wren
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Gray Catbird
Northern Mockingbird
Brown Thrasher
European Starling
Northern Parula
Black-throated Blue Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler
Prairie Warbler
Palm Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler
American Redstart
Ovenbird
Common Yellowthroat
Hooded Warbler
Summer Tanager
Scarlet Tanager
Northern Cardinal
Indigo Bunting
Common Grackle
Spot-breasted Oriole

Many of these birds (the Hooded, several other warblers, Wood-Pewee, Scarlet Tanager, Bunting, Oriole) were seen near the dumpsters at the east end of the hammock. Granted, not a very sexy place to bird, but today a very birdy place to bird. As expected, the hammock took a beating. Trails are passable, though bring along a sense of adventure if you bird them.
