This afternoon Matheson Hammock was dripping with birds. Best day I've seen so far this season. I ended up with 11 warbler species seen, and I'm pretty sure I heard a Kentucky that refused to come out. I only birded the west side, starting in the hammock trail where my second bird was a Swainson's Warbler. What's even more amazing, I birded the entire time while sitting on a La-Z-Boy recliner.
The list:
Acadian Flycatcher
Northern Parula (5)
Prairie Warbler(20+)
Yellow-throated Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler (5-6)
American Redstart (hundreds)
Worm-eating Warbler (10-15)
Swainson's Warbler (2)
Ovenbird (15)
Northern Waterthrush (10+ seen, many more heard)
Louisiana Waterthrush (6 seen, many more heard)
Hooded Warbler (2, one male seen another heard)
The birds were still there at dusk and didn't seem like they were gong anywhere. With all the rain to the south things should be pretty good tomorrow. Don't wait for migrations, it's already here!
