Saw the Bufflehead this morning that was originally located by Micky Wheeler, Sue Sigsbee and Jill Rosenfield on the Dade County CBC. The duck, which was a first record for the CBC, is very rare in Miami-Dade County. If my memory serves me correctly, the last Bufflehead in Dade was located by Jill Rosenfield behind the Lakeside Cemetary on N.W. 25th St. several years ago. The Bufflehead can be seen on the lake behind Palm Springs Mile in Hialeah. The best vantage point is from W.44th Street between W.6th Ave. and W.8th Ave. The closest main drag to the Palmetto Expressway is either N.W. 103rd St. (W. 49th St)or N.W. 57th Ave. (Red Road or W. 4th Ave.)There are a couple of pull-offs where you could park and walk along the lake's edge until you find the Bufflehead. It tends to associate with a small group of Coots.
