Feeling Lucky tonight

This afternoon, I headed down to The Annex at Lucky Hammock in pursuit of a state bird, Willow flycatcher. I arrived about 4 PM in a typical muggy August afternoon in Florida. I fully intended to stay until dusk if needed. Flycatchers are often vocal near dusk as they settled in for the night, so I figured I would get my bird even if it took four hours of waiting. For some time I was to be content with the several American redstarts and White-eyed vireos present. Two flyover White-crowned pigeons were nice to see for someone not from south Florida. Then a light shower chanced to pass by. As often happens, the activity level spiked after the passage of the rain. First one Alder, then anther began to call. Another Alder called and finally the Willow, a couple times, and yet another Alder. Two of the Alders come out for brief views but the other two and the Willow were deeper in the vegetation. After a couple minutes, the activity stopped and I was on my way back to Clewiston with another Florida and Miami-Dade tick. Tomorrow I plan to try for Alder in Palm Beach, which is now one behind Dade on my county lists.
