Willow Flycatcher, The Annex

Since Larry hasn't posted (slacker), I'll do it for him. Larry found and recorded a Willow Flycatcher at the Annex yesterday. Me, Trey, Rangel and his brother Mike all got to see and hear the bird. It was mostly sticking to the area around the speed bump past the electric gate. There were a few Alders as well, but their "pip" calls are eadily distinguished from the "whit" call of the Willow. The willow appears to be in heavy molt and is somewhat raggety looking.

Although this species has been seen and heard on rare occasion in Florida by a small number of lucky birders, this is only the second one to be documented by a recording. Point is, it's a very rare find for Florida. Maybe some birders might consider prying themselves away from looking at their feeder to go see this little guy. Just a thought. You may find another rarity in the process.
