I birded the Everglades Agricultural Area in Palm Beach County earlier today. At STA-1W I had Purple Swamphen, Black Tern, Lesser Yellowlegs, Black-necked Stilts, Roseate Spoonbill, and a single male Ruddy Duck. Gladeview Road had a small flock of Long-billed Dowitchers plus Killdeer. Sam Senter Road and Gator Boulevard were unproductive, either too dry or still planted in sugar cane. At least seven Upland Sandpipers were on Six Mile Bend Corp's sod farms just east of Brown's Farm Road. A scope will be needed to view these birds. The flooded fields previously reported on Brown's Farm Road were almost totally dry. Despite this, large numbers of egrets, Wood Storks and White Pelican remain in the area. Shorebird numbers appear to be drastically lower, but there is still a decent variety, including Least, Western, Semipalmated, White-rumped (1), Pectoral, Stilt and Spotted Sandpipers, Short-billed Dowitchers, Ruddy Turnstones and Semipalmated Plovers. Black, Gull-billed, Caspian and Least Terns were also found here, and Bank Swallows were mixed in with more numerous Barn Swallows.
