Despite having a fever, I went out early this morning in search of migrants and a bird for my Bird-A-Day. I started out at the Annex where all I had were two Redstarts and a Gnatcatcher. Lucky Hammock had no migrants at all. I then went to the scrape on Research Road and only found a couple of Yellowlegs, Black-bellied Plovers, and some peeps. On the way out I checked the fields to the west of 217 ave and found a lone Upland Sandpiper on the north side of the main road. Going west from 217 Ave., it was in the dirt field just past the grassy field before getting to the second row of white water towers. One bird I had no problem finding was the Mockingterd. They are everywhere! I've never seen so many mockingterds in all my life. In the pines, the brush, the fields. Maybe they are eating the other birds (????)

I normally would have a good beer to celebrate the Upland Sandpiper, a nice bird no matter where you see it. But, since I feel like crud, my libation today will be two aspirin with orange juice, followed by a swig of Robitussin.
