I had to run an errand nearby and stopped at Cutler to see if those Avocets I ordered had arrived. They did! There are two in winter plumage mixed with a small flock of Black-necked Stilts. There is a large flock of Laughing Gulls in between the two dirt roads (the western one is almost entirely removed). The stilts and two avocets were at the western end of the gulls. If you drive on the remaining dirt road you will be looking west towards the birds, with the heavy equipment in the background. Of coarse, there's always the chance they'll move, but hopefully they'll stay in the vecinity. I called Trey and he should have some photos shortly. Shorebirds have almost completely gone, except for two Red Knots and some Yellowlegs and Semipalmated Plovers. There were two juvenile and one adult Lesser Black-backed Gulls along with the Laughing, and farther south in the wetlands I counted 18 Northern Shovelers. The equipment will soon begin to take out the eastern dirt road. Once that happens, birding will have to be done from the perimeter, so if you want to enjoy tha last day or two of driving into the wetlands, better get there soon. A pair of Avocets is waiting as your reward! Good birding.
