This morning, 10 hardcore birders endured heavy rains as we birded our way through Matheson Hammock Park. Bird activity was a bit slow altogether, but a couple of active spots made for some "fun in the rain". The rain eventually let up in the late morning, but the birding remained spotty. Don't worry guys, I've got a feeling things will pick up soon. Thanks again to all who showed up. Here's a list of some of the birds seen:
Anhinga
Pied-billed Grebe
Yellow-crowned Night-heron
Red-bellied Woodpecker
White-crowned Pigeon
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Worm-eating Warbler (seen by a few right before the walk started, I believe)
Black-and-white Warbler
Northern Parula
Prairie Warbler
Cape May Warbler
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Black-throated Blue Warbler
Yellow-throated Warbler
Ovenbird
Red-eyed Vireo (oiseau du jour)
Yellow-throated Vireo
Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Eastern Kingbird
Northern Mockingbird
Blue Jay
Northern Cardinal
Baltimore Oriole
Red-shouldered Hawk
Broad-winged Hawk
See you next time!
Cheers,
RJ
