I went to Cutler Wetland this evening and ran into Steve Siegel. Steve was
hoping to get some video of the Merlin catching or feasting on its prey. I shot
this picture a few minutes before Steve got there. I waited with him until the
Merlin(s) arrived. There were two again today and they showed up right on time,
but we never saw them catch anything. Steve did get some video of a couple of
chases though.

The water level is still a little high and so there were less shore birds
than in the past, but still a great variety. I ran into the person who is in
charge of the plants as apart of the mitigation effort at the site. He said they
were going to keep the same topography and plan to eliminate non-native and
unwanted vegetation and would plant appropriate vegetation. He also said that
both of the roads were to be removed. I express a desire to see areas free of
vegetation so the shore birds would continue to have a place to feed. I didn't
get any answer to that specifically, but he mentions speaking with Toe the day
before. The gentleman was there with his wife, with cameras and binoculars
watching the birds. Maybe, the area will continue to be productive in future
years. We will see...
