Toe called me to take photos of a suspect bird at Cutler Wetland. So I met
him there and found there were a few new birds for the site. The suspect bird
was frightened off by a Merlin so I didn't get to accomplish my original task
but...

Toe and Larry Manfredi who was there as well, pointed out a half dozen
Spoonbills flying overhead into the wind about 30ft off the ground. Toe then
pointed out several Black Terns landing a short distance away.

I believe that both are new additions to the species count  for the site
since we have been counting. We began watching the site the middle of July and
have so far identified 24 shorebird species and many waders, raptors and
swallows as well.

The Spoonbills were so close, I felt like I could reach up and touch them.
The were moving past us very slowly due to the wind.

It was dark and windy so the photo isn't the greatest, but here is one of the
Black Terns.

The wind was still blowing about 25-30 mph at 6:30 pm as these birds faced
into the wind trying to avoid blowing away.

I thought this was a good example of how much smaller a Black Tern is
compared to a Gull and a Royal Tern.

It is really nice to have such a productive site close to home.
