This beautiful bird is an expert mimic. It's size and plumage vary greatly
from moment to moment. It is found often by unsuspecting birders looking for
hard to find species. Don't be fooled by it's harmless demeanor, it's takes
great pleasure in confusing even the most experienced birders. Appearance isn't
everything, it also mimics the calls of most of the uncommon flycatchers. The
only way to know for sure that you have located the Mimic Flycatcher is to post
your observation on your favorite bird board and receive multiple identification
corrections or to hear it only unique call, "hoo-am-i-now what-doo-u-c
not-me"
