I was able to see 224 species (plus one additional heard) for San Diego County, California's 2013 June Challenge effort, which bests last year's number of 213 by 11 species. Top species this year in the rare-in-June category were Buller's Shearwater on a pelagic trip, an immature Masked/Nazca Booby seen from shore, Common Murre, Indigo Bunting and a worn immature Mew Gull that was the first ever noted in San Diego in June (one other over-summered in 2008 but was not seen in June). There was a relatively poor eastern vagrant showing with Tennessee Warbler and Rose-breasted Grosbeak seen in the first week. In addition, I cobbled together a decent list of other good over-summering species. I provided a link below that shows the complete species list. I am hearing that there is more interest out here for next year's JC.
