I visited ENP yesterday---went all the way to Flamingo. The mosquitoes were minimal to non-existent---the Deer/Horseflies were more of a problem. I was able to get out of the car short periods of time without much problem. Frequently, I was the only person around especially at the various turn-off sites. I saw two Pileated Woodpeckers together at the Annex and several Great-crested Flycatchers. A couple of Northern Flickers were on the wires. At Pa-hay-okee a Great White Heron stood in the middle of the road. Great -crested Flycatchers were around the observation area. The expected birds were on research rd.. Two E. Bluebirds were standing on the roadway fighting over an insect. At Long Pine Key I did not see anymore N. Bobwhites but saw a Brown-headed Nuthatch. A Pine Warbler was taking a bath in a puddle. It was high tide at Flamingo---An American Coot was scavaging under the picnic tables right in front of the marina store. The worker inside said it has been coming regularly for quite sometime. I was able to get a close-up picture of it's unusual feet. It was as tame as a Rock Pigeon. Not far past the ticket booth at the entrance was a beautiful bright lemon colored Meadowlark singing loudly on a short tree stump near the edge of the road. I was able to get some nice pics of it as it was very cooperative.
