On Saturday, a Carolina Chickdee was observed at Greynolds Park in two locations: small picnic area directly north of the boathouse and again in the large picnic area (Scrub Oak) west of the river when you enter the park from N.E. 22nd Ave. The bird's distinct high pitch call follwed by the typical "chick-a-dee" call was first heard, then the bird was spotted in the canopy of the trees. The bird appeared to be healthy and very active as it moved rapidly from tree to tree exploring and feeding. This is the first time in 35 years of birding in Greynolds Park that I seen a Chick-a-dee in the park or any of the Miami-Dade Parks. Maybe hurricanes to our north encourage this bird to go much further south?
