MHOC meditation Garden is at the north end of the Catholic Church Grounds, Mary Help of Christians in Parkland Florida. Head north from Hollywood on 75, or I95, your choice. The site is the intersection of University Drive and the Sawgrass. If you come 75 it merges into Sawgrass exp and just follow the road until you see University exit. Take it and go north 500 feet. If you use 95 then head north until the 10th St exit, go west and it merges into Sawgrass. Go west to University Exit, and go north 100 feet. The Garden is on your left as you enter. Park on the first grass "island parking" after you pass the mailbox. Walk up the white sugar sand entrance toward the green shade tent. Pick a platform, a bench, or walk around and watch. The action picks up at sunset. The owl show is about 8:10 PM They hang around the wooden cross (why not?) as you can tell from the droppings. Listen for the whinny or the low warbling. You will know you are close when you get "buzzed" by the parents. And check out the bird house...the woodpecker will undoubtedly be watching you watch for the owls. Nighthawks overhead, Red-wings around, mourning dove and white winged doves in great numbers. Check out the cormorant flying southward to roost in the Australian pines at the south end of the 24 acres. If you see anyone with a Tilley hat,(they are the volunteer workers) tell them thanks for all the good work. Don't come Friday...practice for first communion and the place will be not so quiet. We got no buntings. See LH but, you are very near the end of the migration. You'll probably not see them. See also Wakodahatchee on Jog Road Boynton Beach, exit 81 Turnpike, head east then north on jog. It is a holding area for sewage, and a tremendous place for bird sightings. No smell, no bugs yet, but you gotta leave at sunset. Worth the trip. See other reports this page for Wakodahatchee. Cheers!
