I became aware of this nesting colony Friday late afteroon. Other folks who did not know its significance had seen the birds gathering for the past 6 days, not longer. There was a least tern colony on the exact spot 20 years ago, recorded by Ricardo Zambrano. Every year a few least terns have tried to nest here - last year there was one nest with two eggs which promptly disappeared. The adults and nestlings came in from somewhere else. It would never survive without being roped off.
