Today...it was another rainy day. There were a few moments when the sun peeked out and I was fortunate to have spotted a secretive bird - King rail. It was on a ditch by a canal on Hatton Rd. near Sam Senter Rd. I have heard that they hide most of the time in thick vegetations but occasionally come out to feed by the canal. The one I saw was not eating anything. It was ruffling its feather and preening away after all the rain we've been having. It allowed me some shots and then of course it flew away with its feet dangling toward the vegetation beyond the canal. Nothing else out of the ordinary was seen in that area.

On an unrelated note, a pair of Purple gallinules just had some chicks at Green Cay (a few days old) and they are very, very pretty with their black down. Common gallinules had theirs too but they are way more common.

A message for Toe: What are you offering in exchange for my King rail:)? Kidding aside, friendship crosses border and county lines too! We all appreciate the same birds. I would never see you as my adversary - no matter the monthly challenge!
