A visit to the Airport Greenbelt Park this afternoon turned up all four juvenile Anis and both adults along the airport fence above the Cocoplum hedge. The family now looks more like a regular Ani flock strung out along the fence and hunting on their own. I've seldom been so glad to be wrong but there are still many threats to the short and long term survival of this flock. Highway mortality took a heavy toll on the flock last year; three adults and five juveniles were reduced to two adults by last winter; at least two, an adult and a juvenile were apparent road kills. Another potential threat is a planned major expansion of the south runway within the next few years.
