Cape Florida State Park is currently open and will be open tomorrow, except for Picnic Area A, which is still undergoing tree removal work.
Katrina did damage, topple and defoliate hundreds of trees in the park. However, as the park's biologist, I can say that there is no lasting or significant damage to the park's ecology. The majority of trees permanently lost were green buttonwoods, and as this species was planted to excess after Hurricane Andrew (due to various reasons), nature is just reducing its numbers down to a more appropriate level!
In any case, warblers having been moving through the park during the last week. If anything, they may be more visible due to the (temporary) thinning of the park's tree canopy. So, everyone, please enjoy the walk tomorrow.
