I forgot to mention in my previous post that there is a lot of water in South Dade (duh!). Many fields between Homestead and Everglades National Park have the right amount of water for shorebirds, etc. Just like that Whimbrel made a surprise visit, so can something much more interesting. If anyone is in the area, be sure to check every lake, pond, flooded field, or puddle. There's been Long-billed Curlew, Ruff, and Wilson's Phalarope reported farther north in the last two days. We may just get lucky down here. Overly optimistic? Good luck and good birding.
