Spent a relaxing weekend chainsawing, carrying tree limbs, and getting sunburned on my suddenly shade-challenged property. OK, some trees are known to be hurricane prone, but live oak? green buttonwood? mastic?

Early Friday I found a dead Mockingbird on the lawn; but I also heard a singing Spot-breasted Oriole, even though its favorite tree, the aforementioned live oak, was now leaning at a 40 degree angle against the roof. Anyhow, the morning also brought a new yard bird, as a Magnificent Frigatebird sailed over the yard, surely wondering what he was doing over Kendall. A second new yard bird was seen on Saturday, as a White-crowned Pigeon flew overhead.

Other birds noted were a group of 3 Swallow-tailed Kites on Friday, Common Nighthawk dipping low down the street, lots of Barn Swallows, 7 Laughing Gulls, and a pair of Redstarts.
