Made it to Sweetwater Strand on Loop Road this morning. The place echoed with the songs of all types of birds. I had the following in about 2 hours of birding there:
Anhinga
Black-crowned Night-Heron (immature)
White Ibis
Black Vulture
Turkey Vulture
Swallow-tailed Kite
Red-shouldered Hawk
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Pileated Woodpecker (great cloe-up looks of a male eating berries)
Great Crested Flycatcher
White-eyed Vireo
American Crow
Tufted Titmouse (one was in a nest in a tree hole)
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Prothonotary Warbler (had issues with a Titmouse as they were aggressive towards each other almost the whole time I was there)
N. Parula
N. Cardinal (their song echoed beautifully at the strand, as if the volume was up)
Red-winged Blackbird
Common Grackle (Very common and one was on nest)
Carolina Wren was heard.
Highlight on Tamiami Trail was on the Miami-Dade side of Big Cypress where a couple of Green Herons caught my attention with their explosive notes. They had surrounded a Barred Owl which eventually flew off after staring at me for several minutes and ignoring the herons.
Gray Kingbird was just west of Krome.
