This morning while birdng at the very tip of the jetty I had two Flamingos fly over me. They were moving north along the coast and might have come from Turkey Point - it has been known to get great county birds such as Whimbrel and Long-billed Curlew. I was not able to make out any bands on the birds and watched them until they turned a bend a were lost in the mangroves.

This is the second time this month I see Flamingos! On May 9th I was getting ready to do the daily sea turtle survey and had a large flock flying from the bayside of Key Biscayne to the ocean side. They seemed to be using Bear Cut as a way to get over. They continued in a NE direction until I was unable to keep track of them. I ran the turtle survey the next morning also but did not relocate them. I never reported them assuming they were part of the captive collection at Seaquarium but have not confirmed this yet. I have worked at Crandon Park for the last 4 years and have never seen Flamingos coming or going from the Seaquarium. I run sea turtle surveys all summer and throughout the winter I do shorebird surveys on about a daily basis and never even anything that has resembled a Flamingo. The KB AMFL were much further away than the birds this morning so making out a band is difficult but from the picture I cannot see anything.

I know the Hialeah birds come to mind when speaking of Flamingos in South Florida but I live 0.8 miles away from "Flamingo Lake" and drive past it almost everyday on the way to work. There has only been one occasion where I saw the birds fly out of the park but they just looped over East 4th avenue and immediately went back in. This is just one fly-over in over a year and a half of living in Hialeah and continously driving past the park.
