Having the foresight to gas up my car (LOL, Stephen!) I birded SR41 and the western portion of Loop Rd to Sweetwater Strand.
S-333 was quiet but for a single Greater Yellowlegs.
Better luck at S-334, where there were 2 Yellow-billed Cuckoos on the west side of the canal, 2 roosting Nighthawks in trees on the east side, as well as 2 King Rails calling back and forth near the end gate. Common Yellowthroat and White-eyed Vireos were also singing.
Between S-334 and Shark Valley, a Snail Kite was chasing after a Turkey Vulture and eventually drove it off, then landing just across the canal.
At Sweetwater Strand, there was a singing Prothonotary Warbler that flew up and down the main part of the slough. A Red-eyed Vireo was also calling from far up the slough, as were several Northern Parulas. There were at least 4 Yellow-billed Cuckoos, but the only true migrant was a Swainson's Thrush.
Most other "expected" birds were seen, though I missed on Barred Owl and Eastern Kingbird, and was surprised to miss Swallow-tailed Kite, especially around Gannet Strand.
