I had non-birder guests today I wanted to take to Sweetwater Strand on Loop Rd. but poor planning on my side made me realize I had less than a fourth tank of gas when approaching the Oasis Visitor Center. We had to backtrack on Tamiami but made stops at the Miccosukee Indian Reservation which they enjoyed and we also made occasional stops for birding (they brought some binoculars to try out some birding). I think I might have some potential future birders as they thoroughly enjoyed practically everything we saw. Some highlights for me and them were:

White Pelican on the Tamiami Trail canal just west of the Casino.
Black Vultures feeding on roadkill alligator.
Common Myna at Miccosukee Gas Station.
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher bombarding and actually hitting a Red-shouldered Hawk on the Miami-Dade side of Big Cypress. Another Gnatcatcher was at the Miccosukee Village.
Green Heron picking up small fish at a pond, allowing close approach.
Swallow-tailed Kite at Big Cypress being bombarded by Common Grackles.
Singing N. Parula at the Clyde Butcher Art Gallery.
All expected Egrets, Herons and Ibises seen.
