I'm baaaaccckk! Well, only for one last post.
Several of the Wednesday morning Loxahatchee birding group decided to continue getting together on Wednesday mornings as long as there is interest. Last week we went to Spanish River Park in Boca Raton. This week was back to Loxahatchee. Next week will be at Peaceful Waters in Wellington (but I'll be gone by then).
We had a very interesting mix of birds -- 5 species of warbler (Common Yellowthroat, lots of American Redstarts, Cape May, Northern Parula, and lots of Blackpolls), 3 raptor species (Swallow-tailed Kite, Snail Kite, and Red-shouldered Hawk), all the standard egrets and herons (but no Night-Herons), both Parakeets (Nanday and Monk), and the continuing Eastern Screech-Owl (red morph).
But the best birds were several Yellow-billed Cuckoos seen by the Visitors' Center, along Lee Rd, and on the Marsh Trail, and a single female Bobolink seen out along a canal on the Marsh Trail. I learned while confirming the Bobolink ID that they prefer marshes over prairies and meadows while migrating.
OK...until next fall. Really!
