I stopped at the first recreation area just around the bend on 27 N today, for a quick walk up the dike for some BBA work. The edges of the canals were muddy and checkered with puddles, and held a significant number of shorebirds (10 Least SP, 1 Semipalm SP, 4 Solitary SP, 2 Semipalm Plover. There were 4 N. Waterthrush foraging on the banks as well. Back in the parking lot, an investigation of the trees revealed Redstarts and a Blackpoll, as well as an excellent look at a Connecticut. I don't know if these birds are occuring further inland than normal, secondary to the west winds of the past week.
