A month ago I saw and made a (soon forgotten) mental note to record on the Miami Bird Board that I had seen a white-winged dove (Zenaida asiatica) near Mile marker 103 in Key Largo, at the intersection of Snapper Avenue and Blue Runner Street (http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=25.136077,-80.400481&spn=0.009577,0.015385&z=1&hl=en). I was first alerted to it by the distinctive call and quickly spotted a male white-winged dove apparently displaying for some mourning doves. The species is common in south Dade but I personally have fewer than a half dozen observations in Key Largo.
Today I photographed a white winged dove on the electric wire just outside the park administration building at Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. I have not seen the birds this far south before. Last year I observed a pair in north Key Largo, near a seed feeder on Gulfstream Drive in Gulf Stream Shores subdivision (http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=25.190729,-80.354733&spn=0.009094,0.014616&hl=en). I do not recall hearing of this species being seen further south in the Keys.
