Recent Reports

Black-faced Grassquit
Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, Key Biscayne, Miami-Dade County: Last reported May 5 (TAS BirdBoard)
Directions: From I-95, exit at the Rickenbacker Causeway (exit 1). Drive east to the causeway toll plaza. Continue 6 miles to the park entrance (fee, open 8:00 AM until sunset). Past the entrance station, turn right to No Name Harbor Road; park in the parking area at the end of the road. The bird, an immature male, has been seen at various locations along the road or in the Boy Scout camp accessed on the north side of the road about halfway between the parking area and main park road.

White-tailed Tropicbird
Garden Key, Dry Tortugas National Park, Monroe County: Reported May 3 (eBird)
Directions: See http://www.drytortugasinfo.com/ for Dry Tortugas ferry information. The bird was seen flying over Ft. Jefferson.

Black Noddy
Garden Key, Dry Tortugas National Park, Monroe County: Last reported May 3 (eBird)
Directions: See http://www.drytortugasinfo.com/ for Dry Tortugas ferry information. The bird has been seen on Bush Key among Brown Noddies.

Western Spindalis
Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden, Stock Island, Monroe County: Last reported May 2 (eBird)
Directions: From US 1 on Stock Island (the island just before Key West), turn right onto College Road. Drive 0.1 mile to the entrance (donation requested, open 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM). The bird, a female or immature male, has been seen anywhere from the parking area to the small pond at the far end of the trail system.

Black-capped Petrel
Biscayne National Park, Miami-Dade County: Reported May 1 (TAS BirdBoard)
Directions: The bird was seen in 140 feet of water off the whistle buoy between Ocean Reef (at the northern tip of Key Largo) and Elliot Key.

Red-billed Tropicbird
Boynton Inlet, Boynton Beach, Palm Beach County: Reported April 30 (TAS BirdBoard)
Directions: From I-95 in Boynton Beach, Exit at Woolbright Road (Exit 56). Drive east 1 mile to SR A1A. Turn left and drive north 2 miles to the inlet. Parking is available at Ocean Inlet Park, just south of the inlet on SR A1A. Viewing is from the jetty on the north side of the inlet.

Fork-tailed Flycatcher
Garden Key, Dry Tortugas National Park, Monroe County: Last reported April 30 (TAS BirdBoard)
Directions: See http://www.drytortugasinfo.com/ for Dry Tortugas ferry information. The bird was seen on the sand spit connecting Bush Key and Garden Key, but was also seen elsewhere around Fort Jefferson.

Thick-billed Vireo

Directions: From I-95, exit at the Rickenbacker Causeway (exit 1). Drive east to the causeway toll plaza. Continue 6 miles to the park entrance (fee, open 8:00 AM until sunset). Past the entrance station, turn right to No Name Harbor Road; park in the parking area at the end of the road. Walk back along No Name Harbor Road to a white gate on the south side of the road. The bird has been seen at the gate. Beyond the gate is a restricted area: Trespassing will not be tolerated! Do not park along the road. Please refrain from using recorded bird vocalizations in the park.

Antillean Short-eared Owl
Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park, Key West, Monroe County: Last reported April 28 (eBird)
Directions: From US 1 (N Roosevelt Boulevard) in Key West, drive west to Truman Avenue. Continue west to Whitehead Street. Turn right and drive 0.5 miles to Southard Street. Turn left and follow the signs to the park entrance (fee, open 8:00 AM until sunset).

LaSagra s Flycatcher
Virginia Key Ecosystem Restoration Area, Miami-Dade County: Reported April 26 (TAS BirdBoard)
Directions: From I-95, exit at the Rickenbacker Causeway (exit 1). Drive east to the causeway toll plaza. Continue east 3 miles to Arthur Lamb Road (fee). Turn left and drive north 0.6 miles; this location is 0.4 miles north of the turnoff to the sewage treatment facility. The bird was seen on both sides of the road.

Thick-billed Vireo
Key Largo Hammock State Botanical Park, Monroe County: Last reported April 25 (eBird)
Directions: From the intersection of Florida's Turnpike and US 1 in Florida City, drive south 21 miles to CR 905. Turn left and drive north 0.4 miles to the parking area (fee, open 8:00 AM until sunset). The bird has been seen near the pavilion at the trail t-intersection.

Western Spindalis
Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, Palm Beach County: Reported April 25 (TAS BirdBoard)
Directions: From Florida's Turnpike, exit at Boynton Beach Boulevard exit 86). Drive west 2 miles to US 441. Turn left and drive south 2 miles to the entrance (fee, open sunrise to sunset). The bird, a male, was seen in a fig tree on the north side of the entrance road, about 100 feet east of the turn off to the Marsh Trail.

American Golden-Plover
Garden Key, Dry Tortugas National Park, Monroe County: Reported April 22 (eBird)
Directions: See http://www.drytortugasinfo.com/ for Dry Tortugas ferry information. The bird was seen at the north coal dock.
