Earlier this week I went to Green Cay: There are many birds but you can tell that the variety is dwindling as some birds move north to nest.
At any rate, I witnessed for the first time the romance between Black-necked Stilts - they mated and then the male threw his right wing over her and they beautiful red eyes were locked in - a pretty sighting indeed.
Least Bitterns continue flying back and forth from the reeds. I did see one juvenile for the first time this season - I'm sure there are others.
Warblers on Ficus tree included: (Cape May, Blackpoll, American Redstart)
A dozen or so Whistling ducks
After the rains in the past few days, water level is high therefore many birds have to find somewhere else.

Earlier today I witnessed a stunning looking Black-throated Blue Warbler partially trapped on a Gumbo Limbo tree near my neighborhood. I was photographing a female Cape May Warbler and saw some movement i took some shots until I realized that the bird had a difficult time freeing itself. I became the hero for the day and saved her life (full story with photos...if anyone cares). It does shows some nice-looking markings and colors that in MY experience is not so easy to observe.

Loxahatchee (Yesterday & today):
Beautiful Cape May Warblers
Blackpolls
Black-throated Blue Warblers
Northern Parulas
Carolina Wren
About 50 Cedar Waxwings remain feasting on berries
4 young Pileated Woodpeckers were just off Lee rd near the entrance to Marsh Trail.
Otherwise the regulars... Yesterday was a whole lot better. Today between 11 &12 was dead silent. Silent is not a good sign and some days are like that and I can't quite explain. As I was about to leave a pair of Black-hoooded Parakeets flew in and they went inside a hole on a wooden pole - thanks to the carpentry job performed by the Pileated Woodpeckers in years' past. They saluted me with their new status on the ABA's list:)

Wish I could have reported some of the amazing birds I have been reading out of Miami-Dade, Dry Tortugas, & Broward...
Marcello
