Steve,
You have gotten that information wrong, Yellow-faced and Cuban Grassquit are common in the Miami area pet trade. Black-faced Grassquit are vagrants to Cuba so are not known by the Cubans. It is a drab bird and does not sing well so it is not in the pet trade. They are found commonly in the Bahamas as well as many other West Indies Islands but not Cuba.
